Plan, direct, and manage service operations of the Health Information Management Department.Â Develop systems for maintaining and securing paper as well as electronic medical records.Â Organize and maintain central medical records and prepare for liaison with governmental, educational, and accrediting organizations.Â
Knowledge of health information management and the utilization of diagnostic and therapeutic medical records.
Basic knowledge of psychiatric in patient inpatient coding standards and procedures.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implements appropriate health record processing systems.Â Systems provide accurate and timely processing of records and generation of reports.
Assures accreditation and regulatory requirements are met and reviews and reports same.
Assures that records and record information are secure and available within the confines of confidentiality requirements.Â Record control system enhances prompt availability and protects confidentiality.
Serve as the facility Privacy Officer.
Coordinates provision of codes and other information for billing needs.Â Information provided within established time periods.
Determines staffing needs and assures personnel functions are carried out.
Coordinates coordinates with the medical staff to ensure compliance with coding guidelines, DSM V and ICD 10 terminology.
Manage multiple vendors, including transcription, offsite storage, and form purchasing.
Assume responsibility for medical records documentation, retention policies, and procedures/systems.
Direct development, analysis, selection, and implementation of automated systems of medical records working closely with appropriate departments to enhance workflow of the department.
Facilitate and conduct medical record reviews in response to requests from external review agencies.
Participate in medical staff and administrative committees and task forces as requested or assigned.
Provide for ongoing in-service education and training for department staff to maintain and improve skills and performance levels.
Implement and support quality improvement processes within the department and throughout the hospital.
Adhere to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures.
